The Wildkat baseball team got off to a good start, winning their home opener Tuesday against Eastern 15-5 in five innings. The Wildkats scored five in the first and never let up offensively with 15 hits on the game. Patrick Hopkins led the Wildkats hitting for the cycle, going 4-for-4, with six RBIs. T.J. Weir also had a great day at the plate going 3- for-3 with a double, a homerun, and three RBIs. Casey Shipley had two hits and two stolen bases, and Phillip Kuhns, Dylan Green, Nolan Sanburn, and Nick Franklin all had hits. Taylor Carpenter got the win on the mound in relief of Weir. Carpenter threw three scoreless innings only giving up two hits while striking out two. – Coach Edwards

The Kats played great defense last night to beat Western 4-3. The Wildkats were led offensively by Casey Shipley, who went 3-for-3 at the plate and stole a couple of bases. Devin Schacht also was big for the Kats, going 2-for-3 with a big RBI double in the fourth, and T.J. Weir contributed with an RBI single in the first inning to get us started on the night.

Nolan Sanburn picked up the pitching win for Kokomo, going five innings and striking out nine. Taylor Carpenter got the save for the Wildkats by throwing two scoreless innings and facing only seven batters to get the job done.

The Kats are 4-0 and play Frankfort Friday at Highland Park starting at 6:00. – Coach Edwards

On Friday the Wildkats got a 15-strikeout performance on the mound by T.J. Weir to beat the Frankfort Hot Dogs 6-0. Weir was dominant, throwing a complete game for the win, and also contributed at the plate with two hits and two RBIs. Casey Shipley was also big for the Wildkats on offense with two hits and two RBIs. Phillip Kuhns scored two runs for the Kats.

Saturday, Colton Summers pitched the Wildkats second complete game in a row, striking out five while scattering eight hits to help defeat sectional rival Lafayette Harrison 10-1. The Wildkats played their most complete game as a team pounding out twelve hits, playing great defense, and pitching efficiently. The Wildkats were led on offense by Casey Shipley in the leadoff spot going 4-5, and T.J. Weir and Devin Schacht contributed two hits apiece. Nolan Sanburn had a big RBI triple, Patrick Hopkins had three RBIs, and Nick Franklin hit a three-run homer in the 7th inning to put the game away. Weir, Shipley, and Hopkins all had great defensive plays to prevent Harrison from getting back in the game. - Coach Edwards

The Wildkats lost to McCutcheon yesterday by the score of 10-0. Kokomo ’s offense disappeared only coming up with one hit against the Mavericks. Patrick Hopkins had the only hit for the Wildkats. The Kats are back in action Wednesday at Highland Park against North Central. – Coach Edwards

The Wildkats got off to a good start in the NCC with a doubleheader sweep of Richmond on Saturday. The Kats beat Richmond in the first game in five innings by the score of 11-1. Nolan Sanburn led the way for the Kats throwing a no-hitter, hitting a homerun, and going 3-for-3 with two RBIs. The only run Sanburn gave up was after a hit batter and then an error by the rightfielder later in the inning plated the only run for Richmond. Phillip Kuhns, Nick Franklin also had two hits for the Kats in the first game. Patrick Hopkins chipped in with a double and an RBI.

In the second game the Wildkats got good pitching from Colton Summers and Taylor Carpenter. Summers and Carpenter combined to throw a 5-hitter, only giving up one run in a 3-1 win for the Kats. Summers struck out six in five innings of work. Casey Shipley, Kuhns, and Austin Colby led the Kats on offense with two hits each. The Kats also played great defense in this game with numerous plays that stopped any threat by Richmond. T.J. Weir, Devin Schacht, Colby, Sanburn, and Franklin all had outstanding defensive plays throughout the second game to secure the win for the Kats. - Coach Edwards
May 5 Logansport (H) (W) 21-0
The Wildkats pounded out 19 hits in a 21-0 win over conference rival Logansport. T.J. Weir threw a three- hitter with nine strikeouts in five innings. Devin Schacht was 4-for-4 while Casey Shipley, Austin Colby, and Weir all had three hits. Nolan Sanburn hit a home run in the 2nd inning. The Kats are back in action today at Logansport at 5:00.- Coach Edwards
May 7 Logansport (T) (L) 10-8
The Wildkats lost to Logansport by the score of 10-8. The Kats pitched poorly, played bad defense, and only had five hits in the loss. The Kats got home runs from T.J. Weir, Dylan Green, and Phillip Kuhns. The Wildkats are 10-4 overall and 3-1 in conference. They are back in action tomorrow at Muncie Central at 11:00 for two NCC conference games. – Coach Edwards

Kokomo 13 - Muncie Central 5
The Wildkats took two games from Muncie Central on Saturday by the scores of 18-0 and 13- 5. The Kats hit the ball all day and never let off the gas pedal offensively and on the bases. The Kats had 15 hits in the first game and 12 hits in the second game. In the first game Colton Summers got the win on the mound throwing four innings only giving up one hit and striking out five. The Kats were led offensively by Patrick Hopkins who was 3-for-4 with seven RBIs and hit a grand slam in the 1st inning. The Kats also got three hits by T.J. Weir and two hits apiece by Nolan Sanburn and Phillip Kuhns.

In the second game, Kuhns picked up the win on the mound going six innings. He struck out seven and walked four. The Kats were led offensively by Kuhns and Michael Reynolds, who each went 3-for-4 and knocked in seven runs between them. Casey Shipley also had a big game for the Kats with two hits and four stolen bases.

The Kats are 12-4 and 5-1 in conference. – Coach Edwards

Side note – Pete Keyes threw a perfect game, no-hitter on Saturday for the JV baseball team in an 11-0 win over Muncie Central. Keyes struck out 13 of the 15 batters he faced in a five-inning game.
May 11 Lafayette Jeff (H) (W) 10-1
Devin Schacht, Dylan Green, and Nick Franklin led the way on offense for the Kats. Schacht and Green had two hits each, and Franklin hit a three-run homer in the third to extend the Kats lead to 8-1.

T.J. Weir threw six innings on the mound to pick up the win and Taylor Carpenter came into pitch the seventh, striking out two of the three guys he faced. Weir gave up five hits in his six innings of work with six strikeouts. - Coach Edwards

The Kats got a no-hitter from Nolan Sanburn on the mound to beat conference opponent Marion 10-0.

Sanburn struck out 11 and was dominant the whole game. The Kats also got a huge offensive day from Phillip Kuhns who was 4-for-4 with two home runs, four runs scores, five RBIs, and two stolen bases. T.J. Weir was 3-for-4, and Casey Shipley chipped in with two hits. Sanburn, Tyler Price, Austin Colby, and Dylan Green contributed with a hit each.

The Kats are back in action today at Highland Park against Marion in another conference match-up (4:30). – Coach Edwards

The Wildkats lost last night to Huntington North by the score of 4-1. Colton Summers was the tough luck loser on the mound for the Kats throwing a great complete game, 5 hitter, only giving up one earned run. The rest of the runs that Huntington scored were on four errors committed by the WIldkats in the 4th inning. That 4th inning and the lack of hitting on offense did the WIldkats in. The Wildkats were led on offense by Tyler Price and Phillip Kuhns who accounted for all the hits. Price was 3-3 and Kuhns had 2 hits.

The Kats are back in action today at Highland Park against Lafayette Central Catholic at 6:00. The Kats are 18-6 overall and 9-3 in the NCC with a one game lead over Anderson and Huntington North for the conference championship. The Kats have two conference games left against New Castle on Saturday. - Coach Edwards
