Auto Service Technology

Automotive Service Technology offers training in skills to enter the automotive trade as a technician.  Approximately 40% of the instruction is theoretical and 60% is devoted to “hands-on” experiences. The fall semester introduces students to proper shop practices, safety in the workplace, tools and equipment, automotive systems, and preventative maintenance. The spring semester covers the fundamentals of engines, fuel systems, ignition systems, electrical systems, and introduction to brakes, steering/suspension and wheels/tires. Students are provided hand tools for a rental fee. Financial requirements include a workbook and lab fee. Second year students continue their training with 540 hours of instruction on engine performance, steering and suspension systems, driveline repair and accessory systems. This program is certified by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) and AYES (Automotive Youth Education System).
