5 a Day Program Print E-mail

Maple Crest Elementary School teamed up with Anthem Health Care and UAW Local 685 during the 2007-2008 to provide the 5 A Day Program - Fruits and Veggies More Matters for our second grade students.  The program teaches students to eat a variety of servings of fruits and vegetables in a fun and enjoyable format.  The students sample a variety of fruits and vegetables that they may not have had the opportunity to taste.  The students are weighed and have their Body Mass Index (BMI) taken at the beginning of the program and then again at the end.

Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program Print E-mail

Elwood Haynes will be participating for the second consecutive year in a Fresh Fruit and Vegetable grant sponsored by the Indiana Department of Education for community and school nutrition program. This grant provides all students at Elwood Haynes the opportunity to receive either a serving of fresh fruit or vegetable daily throughout the school year. There is usually an educational theme and/or trivia for the students to participate in daily. This grant allows our students to enjoy a nutritional snack every day and is supported with an nutrition education program exposing each student to a wide variety of assorted fruits and vegetables
